Melissa Taitano
Project Coordinator
Melissa Taitano is a Taan Gech Micronesian traditional canoe carver, navigator and artist. She is graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where she received her doctorate in Library and Information Studies specializing in archival studies and cultural memory. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Guam, Micronesian Area Research Center. Projects include Wait For Me: Russian Refugees in Guam, a short film about LGBTQ Russian asylum seekers in Guam, and Reimethau (People of the Ocean) Sacred Tree Park, A Cultural Memory Project which addresses the crisis of climate migrants in Micronesia.
